Thyroid Foundation of Canada

National Board is accepting nominations for positions on the Board for the coming year 2018-2019. Come join our enthusiastic team Help us to Help others! You could be helping someone near and dear to you.

The Thyroid Foundation of Canada was the first lay organization in the world, created by thyroid patients for thyroid patients. We are the voice of thyroid patients in Canada! In 2017, we created a five-year Strategic Plan that modernized our vision and mission, defined our core values, strategic objectives and initiatives, and updated the national organization. We established a telephone support team to better respond to our Help Line calls and initiated a project to redesign and modernize our website. There’s still much to be done and we need your help!

Volunteering to help others and provide people with some contentment or a better outlook on life is one of the most satisfying things you can do. Various attributes from various life skills helps tremendously in providing others with help. Here is a sample of some of the things we’d like to do in the areas of awareness, advocacy, patient support and chapter development:

  • Establish a major awareness event for June is Thyroid Month, such as a Canadian Forum on Thyroid Disease, to showcase thyroid issues and generate discussion on thyroid disease;
  • Advocate an increase to the Thyroid medical curriculum to better equip family doctors for dealing with thyroid disease;
  • Create a database of medical support information (endocrinologists, clinics, etc.) across Canada to support thyroid patients; and
  • Support the development of Public Education meetings across Canada to foster thyroid awareness and the development of new chapters for local support.

If you can spare a couple of hours a week, have a computer and telephone in your home, you can help our thyroid patient community! Positions for the board include President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary as well as directors for Public Relations, Patient Support, Fundraising, Thyroid Research, Volunteer Recruitment and Development, Education and Publications, and Chapter Development. The positions are open across Canada. Please think about it and consider reaching out – Help us to Help others – You may be helping someone close to you and you could be helping yourself.
